Ah, the gym. Fast paced electronic music pumping out of the speakers as buff men and stunning women sculpted their bodies, loud metallic clangs echoing through the room at different intervals. She'd never been a fan of weight machines like most of the guys did, and preferred the free weights she often used for in Sanda (No, not Samba the dance, rather Sanda, the Chinese name for kickboxing). She walked out of the locker rooms in a tight and skimpy workout outfit and for once examined surroundings instead of the people: First time she's visited the gym in Yorkshun.

Melanie had been keeping her weight steady for many years now, a grueling effort almost uncharacteristic of a lazy, nonchalant girl like her whose only major efforts revolved around getting laid with people who'd reject her. Despite being this tall for a woman, she'd been this tall since middle school, long before all the boys grew tall enough to stand at eye level with her, a height intimidating enough to protect her younger sisters from bullies... Even though never needed any form of violence to achieve this...

Still, all these years of stabilizing her weight at a healthy [CENSORED] helped her tone her body and keep her curves firm and perky in all the right places. Squats were one of her favorites exercises, of course, but she needed more than that to get this result... Still, the perfect exercise to start today's workout right after her jog and warm up stretches. She kept her weights light: Though 10lb dumbells in each hand were hardly anything impressive, she used those same weights throughout the bulk of her workout and never rested for more than 10, 20 seconds in between sets.

"One...", she counted out to herself pressing up with the weights near her shoulders, then following up into the second rep, lowering into a squat, followed by another shoulder press once she stood back upright, "Two..."

Melly kept her eyes firmly locked into the mirror, but she wasn't so much paying attention to her own form (she had that down long ago) but rather everyone else, see who was staring at her butt and for how long. It's not like she could blame them, quite the opposite: She'd be doing exactly the same if she were in their position. One might be liable to guess Melanie chose this position on purpose, facing away from everyone so even the shy types would feel more comfortable oggling her. And one would be liable to guess correctly. Maybe she'd spot someone worth hitting on... After all, Mel wasn't called  big ol' five for nothing.

Half oggling the gym regulars and half tending to her own regiment, Mel finished her set of squats and shoulder press combo and wondered what exercise she should do next. This one was perfect to get people looking at her, especially when she reached that potentially short straining lowest point into each rep... Good thing her shorts were elastic... All in all, this kind of training she did boosted her burst strength and speed all in one, by lifting the weight (or her own body) as fast and explosively as possible, and doing the exact opposite when lowering by doing so as slowly and strainly as she could. Predictably, this kind of workout got progressively intense as time went on without Melly having to do anything to increase it, and also work her stamina and endurance; simply doing a longer work out did the trick nicely while also doing wonders for her body.

As for the weights, she made it her goal never to raise them much higher, wanting to stay away from a muscular figure as much as possible; for she didn't find that very attractive and doubted other people did too.

True, most of her perk was natural, Mel's breasts weren't particularly big, at least not compared to plenty of girls, especially among some of those she chased in the past. But she knew what she had and how to make the most of it, and getting her chest to look like that took a good deal of effort on her part, the same kind of effort she'd hardly ever put forth anywhere else: by having a good posture and upper body strength, developed with the right choice of exercises. Such as the one she did next: Melanie bent over the bench and rested one knee over it for support, facing down and opening her arms. Dumbell reverse fly. This was a far harder exercise than it might look at first glance, having to raise those weights with her arms outstretched meant her muscles needed far more strength to pull if off than if she had her elbows bent. So when her count reached, "Five...", Mel was already huffing as a bead of sweat trailed down the locks of raven hair framing her face, dripping down on the ground below.

For a while she stopped glancing the onlookers and gazed at her own reflection, only for a short while... She'd to feel a lot more burn than this before she her focus completely sunk in her workout...

The girl pushed through the rest of her set with relative ease, stopping only once she hit fifteen. Instead of doing two or three sets of the same exercise all at once, she mixed several different ones in between sets. Right now, she was going for three exercises, three sets each, and thus scarcely allowed herself a couple of seconds once she finished the flys and felt a decent burn on her back and chest muscles. But she scarcely allowed herself even a couple of seconds worth of rest, taking a sip of water, wiping the sweat off her face, draping it around her neck as she admired her surroundings. She had a decent number of people stealing cursory glances at her, mostly men, but some women too. One girl in particular looked extremely cute, so much Mel couldn't resist flashing her that smooth, inviting smile, before dropping the towel at the edge of the bench and grabbing her dumbells once more.

Though she didn't allow herself much time to rest, it was more than enough to catch her breath before the next exercise: Next up, bench presses. For the next few moments, she wouldn't be oggling anyone as she laid face up on the bench and pushed both dumbells with a huff. It wasn't too different from doing push ups, both gave her a similar burn on her arms and pecs, so she usually picked one or the other alternative as her whims dictated. That said, neither exercise came too hard for someone used to doing pushups regularly - the way the boys did it too - without resting her knees on the ground like most of the girls. So she'd naturally breeze through the first set easily enough:

"...Fifteen!", panted Mel as she reached the highest point in her last rep, before slowly lowering the dumbells back down to resting position.

True, the exercises themselves may not be difficult, but the lack of rest was gradually getting to her as Melanie sluggishly placed the dumbells on the ground and raised her torso upright. She ran a hand over her forehead and sighed, wiping away the sweat before it reached her eyes, and rolling her tense shoulders. Next up, she'd be repeating all these three exercises, two more sets each.

It would defenitely get harder starting now. Though mel didn't need to drink more water right away, so she instead sat down on the bench for a couple of seconds as she caught her breath, resting her elbows over her knees. None of the beefy guys had yet tried to make an approach, surprisingly enough, but then again Melanie clearly looked thoroughly absorbed in her workout, so much regular gym goers might think twice about disrupting her pace. Well, not that she minded, after all, this seductress naturally preferred doing the chasing herself anyways. She spared another quick glance at the different machines avaliable for use, and eventually noticed a punching bag she hadn't seen the first time around. That was defenitely worth using towards the end of her training session.

For now, squats and shoulder presses once more. She took her place in front of the mirror with a significantly more focused look than she started with, and repeated that set, immediately followed by the reverse fly's, and the chest presses after that. Harder, but still doable, and she didn't struggle with her last rep in either of those exercises. Now the third set, however... Maybe if she'd allowed herself proper rest she could have breezed through all three, but by the time she reached that final set of squats her quads and glutes already ached with each rep. She didn't wobble, not from this not so easily. Training under Sifu was much harder than anything she could do by herself... That didn't make it any less painful, but hey, no pain, no gain, right?

She then finished off with the next set of fly's and chest presses, stopping only at fifteen once her arms, delts and pecs hurt as the rest of her body. The last rep was always the hardest, yet once she hit it, a sense of fulfilled relief immediately washed over as she dropped the dumbells back down beside her, a tired smile appeareing on her lips: "First three... done...", huffed Mel, drinking some of her water as she looked between the dumbells and the mirror.

What to do now? It's not like she had a plan or anything, Mel was the kind of girl to whom training always came as a whimsically cooked series of exercises. She followed some basic guidelines, sure, working some groups of muscles to a bare minimum and guarenteeing at least fifteen to twenty minutes jogging and just as much flexibility.

Though she had the same pace as a martial artist would use to strengthen burst power and endurance, her choice of exercises always revolved around what would make her body look best...

...And thus the choice was obvious; after just finishing two sets of upper body exercises, she'd need something else for her lower body too. But the next exercise she had in mind didn't need dumbells or anything of the sort, merely Mel's own body weight and and a good bit of flexibility. She rested the full twenty seconds this time, before facing the mirror and taking a deep breath.

Now ready for another nine set series, Melanie crossed her right leg diagonally behind the left, resting all her weight over the latter as she lowered her body, hands firmly locked over her chest. She relied entirely on the position of her torso and lower body strength for balance, and tried to remain as firm and steady as possible. Once she reached the lowest possible point her strength and position allowed, she pushed and rose on her left leg, while simultaneously swinging her outstretched right leg straight up into a side toe kick.

"One...!"

This dynamic, high kick stretch mixed into a cross legged squat did wonders not only for her glutes but her martial arts skill, after all Melanie was pretty much striking someone's chin while hardly turning her torso at all; an impressive feat of flexibility that took her years to attain. Some girls called this a curtsy lunge, but Melanie never knew what name to put it before then. It was one exercise among the many she often did as warm up in her kung fu classes. Balance and coordination sealed the deal here. Since she wasn't using her arms, she had to keep her breath and position steady at all times, even when her fully stretched knee narrowly reached her tricep.

Even by the time she reached ten reps, the set was only halfway done: An exercise like this had to be trained evenly for both sides, so she naturally switched stance and repeated the entire drill with her right leg...

She couldn't help but sit down on the bench once more as she finished, once more looking around her surroundings. A tired, half hearted gaze this time, from a girl whose head mostly remained focused on counting seconds, feeling how much longer she could kick back and catch her breath before breaking up her pace. The answer is, not long. She had just enough time to exchange glances and a smile with a rather pretty blonde - as she got busy running on the treadmill - and that's about it. Once her ten seconds were up, Mel turned to face the mirror as she set about doing her next set.

Her next exercise also entailed a double set of ten reps for one side and ten more to the other... Yet instead of dividing it along left and right sides, she split it at clockwise and counter clockwise. She took hold of the dumbells once more and raised them high above her head, like she would if she were doing shoulder presses, and moved one feet further apart, widening her stance for stability, then slowly lowered both dumbells down from the front with her arms outstretched. Once they reached the lowest point beside her thighs, she'd roll them back up but this time from the sides.

Unlike some of the others she practiced, this exercise had a more widely accepted name: Around the worlds

One of her favorite shoulder exercises, though in a way it resembled the kind of burn she could get from swimming laps in the nearby pool, or even paddling forth on a surf board. Alas, she had yet to visit the beach in Yorkshun and didn't yet know whe she'd get a chance to do so. After all, this city wasn't really known for it's seaside tourism, not like her home.

Once she did the first rep, she'd follow up with the second one in the opposite direction, stopping only once she reached a total twenty, ten for each direction. However just like with the reverse fly, holding her arms outstretched like this put a great strain on her shoulders, and she started wincing by the time she reached, "Nine...", huffed the dark haired fighter, holding her arms as steady as possible, in complete control of the added mass. And wait till she got to the second and third sets...!

Mel could hardly hold her arms steady once she reached that last rep. She could defenitely use the short break as the constant barrage of exercises was taking its toll on her stamina. As she replaced both dumbbells with towel and water, grabbing the former revealed it to be pretty drenched already. Sure, she could still use it to wipe all the sweat off her face before pulling her bangs back behind her ear, but soon enough it wouldn't do much... Oh well, she'd think about that if it came to pass. After all, she already knew what muscles to work next, with what could very well be called the bread and butter of all dumbbell exercises.

Bicep curls. In the end Melanie was still a martial artist, and no matter how much she oriented her fitness goals towards sexyness, she still needed to hone her physical strength to throw a proper punch and defend herself.

Despite her whole 'make love, not war' philosophy, Mel was born in a beautiful but dangerous city, and very much ingrained that duality within herself from a young age. She didn't like being dangerous mind you, but she knew she needed to watch out for her own safety, and more importantly, look out for her little sisters. That's another reason why she had her eyes on that punching bag for a while now. Though a big beefy guy had been pounding away at it for a good while now, she hoped to have a go in a few minutes, once she finished these exercises and maybe three more. She could always do a few more crunches and push ups later...

But first, the matter at hand: She rested her elbows close to her torso and allowed the dumbells' weight to fully extend her arm. Starting from this position tired her much more than if her arms were only a few inches short from full extension, and predictably enough those first few inches came hardest for her, with Mel wincing ever so slightly as she struggled to pull them up. She seldom rose higher than her chest, especially as she reached the last couple of reps, that last bit of movement accomplished very little in the grand scheme of things, nothing compared to the importance of getting that full extension.

Still, bicep curls with 10lbs was easy, too easy. She got the raising half the movement down explosively fast, and slowed down while lowering to properly work both those types of muscle fibers at once, and even training at both extremes, this wouldn't really take its toll on her until the last set, and maybe the last few reps in the second set.

The same could be said for the cross legged squats, so much Melanie wound up making it slightly more challenging by throwing in a single dumbbell, pressing it firmly to her chest even through the high kick. She boasted impressive leg strength for her size, and even greater flexibility, so even the extra 10lbs didn't phase her the slightest.

The same could not be said for the around the worlds, during which her grip already faltered during the second set, and the sheer effort of completely finishing the last one had her face turning red long before she finished the last set of curls and finally allowed herself a bigger gulp of water. Her sweat slicked skin hot and flushed, smoky breath fast and ragged, so much the mere act of crouching to put the dumbbells down made her legs feel weak... Not from overstrained strength, but rather stamina.

"Ugh...", she groaned, sighed and slumped down on the bench... Mel had reached that point in her training where Sifu would be calling out to his students, egging them on through until the end. But here, she didn't have a master, or even a personal training to cheer her on, "Not... Done yet..."

Instead, Mel had to rely solely on something she never really had much of: Discipline. Call it self rule, call it resolve, call it whatever. But she expected to do at least three more exercises and have a go at the heavy bag, and she wouldn't back down so easily. Nor would she go over the maximum 20 seconds rest, even if this time, she milked each and every second for all they're worth, drinking bigger gulps that would be advised...

However, she would finally allow herself some rest between her physical condititioning and her heavy bag practice. Which only left the question of what exercises would she do more. One of them seemed obvious, after just having finished a set of bicep curls. The girl with the ponytail once more rested one knee over the bench and the other foot over the ground, leaning her torso forwards as she stared at her reflexion, her eyes idly following a sweaty droplet as it trailed down the side of her face...

She moved her weights beside her chest, fully bending her elbows, and then, "One...!", in a sudden burst of movement, Mel stretched both arms backwards at full speed: Tricep kickbacks.

Given her frequent use of snapping backfist punches, Melanie obviously needed well trained triceps for that explosive stretching motion, often chaining into them from a full spin of her body to get all that momentum behind her, before finally using her forearm almost like a whip. She could often follow up a full power high kick with a backfist punch while her foes expected her to be wide open, or simply parry a punch with her palm and retaliate with such a strike to her foe's chin. The latter presented a highly effective self defense movement, one she found herself forced to use on more than one occasion.

She bent her elbows back to resting position slow and steadily, barely betraying an ounce of strain. It wasn't that hard an exercise to begin with, and she'd been doing it for years now under far more intense training conditions. Any and all difficulty came from doing it towards the end of her conditioning regimen, but that only meant it would get harder even faster than the exercises she did before. As she completed the final rep, Mel slowly let her arms hand gown and straddled the bench, putting both weights down in front of her...

She once more grabbed the dumbbells and reclined, resting face up on the bench, took a deep breath, then spread her arms spread out to either side. Merely holding them out like that - with nothing but her own strength to support the free weights - naturally put enough strain on her chest and arms to highlight her muscle tone; so much that simply holding this position for thirty seconds or a minute served as a proper exercise, she'd used it as such as more than one that one occasion.

But she wanted a far more common exercise, the pec fly. Most people do this on the weight machines, but Sifu had warned her against using those, how they developed one's strength unevenly, training you to lift the weight but not to steady and hold it in place. Fortunately, one had no shortage of efficient free weight alternatives to most of those exercises, not to mention ordinary exercises like the squat and the push up.

"Three...", she huffed, gritting her teeth as she brought her outstretched arms together, obviously meeting far greater resistance that if she were holding the weights closer to her shoulders... It placed those exercises among the hardest she'd trained with so far, and doing them so late into her training session only made it harder.

After all, Melanie had now been going at this non stop, steadily nearing the 30 minutes mark on her free weight training regimen... So naturally, once she lowered her weights back down at the end of the last rep, she wanted nothing more than to let her arms fall limp, dropping the dumbells in the process. Her stamina was at its limit, so much that only willpower and discipline remained. She rose back upright slowly and got off the bench, sparing but a single glance at the sweaty stain her back had left on the smooth leather, even through the towel.

She wiped her face and glanced at the mirror. For once, the dark haired martial artist knew exactly what exercise she'd be doing next, after all, she'd knowingly left the hardest for last, aware of how there was one exercise she'd most certainly do. Naturally, every exercise gets harder if one tries doing it while exhausted, but some more so than others.

Melanie grabbed the weights and held them in front of her head, in a closed guard stance. She had her leading right leg forwards, narrowing her eyes at her own reflection as if it were an opponent to take down, yet for reasons other that simply concentrating on her exercise: Focusing on something tangible helped stave off the exhaustion. At this point, she no longer had the luxury of oggling pretty boys and girls, not with sweat dripping down her hair every couple of seconds...

Without warning, she threw a left cross with all the swiftness and agility she could yet muster, "One...!", and then skipped, shifting lead and right legs as she unleashed yet another cross, this time with her right hand, "Two...!", and so forth.

Both skipping and throwing quick punches came sluggishly enough after this stenuous a workout under her belt, requiring every last drop of stamina she could yet muster with mental fortitude alone. But she didn't waver, throwing punch after punch, getting through the, "Eighteen... Nineteen... Twenty!!", even though she could hardly feel her hands anymore.

Yet she counted cross punches as one of her favorite exercises, enough she didn't mind doing twenty instead of fifteen reps, just to get that even number. After all, they contributed towards improving both her skill as a martial artist (making both her punches and footwork faster), but they also did wonders for her appearance, toning and strengthening her upper body so her breasts looked perkier.

But it came with a cost.

Mel was left panting as it finally finished, her top so thoroughly drenched in sweat it might as well be transparent. And she'd only done the first set yet!

She'd rest the whole 20 seconds, and she'd likely do the same after the second set of cross punches, after all she needed a bit of time to catch her breath, at this point she was too winded to even move. But work out she would, and fortunately she had an easier exercise that would allow her that much needed recovery time. Once more she rested one knee on the bench and pushed through another fifteen tricep kick backs, holding through the numbness and shortness of breath relatively well, considering. The pec flies came harder, of course, if not nearly as hard as what would come next, the second set of cross punches.

The last few were thrown far more sluggishly than ever, with a panting breath and grit of her teeth as she struggled to keep them steady. She knew executing such a sloppy punch against an opponent, or even the heavy bag, would likely injure her hand. Sure, she seemed mostly imprevious to injury, yet no matter what Mel wouldn't allow herself to get sloppy...

Fortunately for her, reaching the final set and knowing it was the very last exercise gave her a second wind. Always trust a lazy person to feel empowered by the possibility of not having to work again for a while, because that's exactly what she did. She gripped her weights with renewed vigor and threw punches as if they were some crook trying to do God knows what to her little sisters.... And once she reached that "TWENTY!", her count all but turned into a joyous but tired cry turning into a sigh as she slumped lazily on the bench and leaned back.

"Finally...", panted the exhausted fighter, lying on the bench and reaching the bottle to her thirsty lips. God, the water... After such a workout, water always tasted like the most delicious thing in the world. Is this what desert dwellers felt like? She wound up chugging down every last bit of water in the bottle and squeezing it to the last drop, before sighing again as she let her overheating body cool down.

She could finally rest...! No matter how broken she felt right now, she also knew fully well only a couple minutes rest would leave her pumped and ready for the more. Back when training with Sifu, ending the physical conditioning marked the start of the real training, practicing her punching and kicking combinations, sometimes sport combat, or self defense at other times.

She had a few minutes to fan herself, wipe off the copious sweat, and let her heartrate drop back down a couple notches. She didn't know how long she rested, but it couldn't have been long... Soon enough she had sat up once more, resting her elbows on her knees before looking around for her gear. She'd taken some of it with her, including hand wraps and gloves. Once more, she didn't really need these... But after a whole life of using them during martial arts practices, Melanie found old habits die hard...

Even wrapping them up without looking came as easy as breathing, while her keen, watchful eyes followed the guy at the heavy bag. Not for his beauty (he was hardly that pretty), but for his finishing workout. And once he backed off, she stepped up in a matter of seconds.

First off, positioning. As Melanie took her place on the heavy bag, she made sure she had a constant eye on that clock, lacking a chronometer to time her exercises. She'd unleash as many of the same combination as she could, non stop, for that amount of time, with all the stamina she could muster. Naturally this kind of training would feel hardest right at the start, after only just finishing her physical conditioning. Afterward, it would get easier halfway through, only to get harder again as she reached half an hour and beyond.

"First off...", skipping in place, Melanie kept her leading right leg forward, and suddenly threw a full speed right jab.

She quickly followed up with a left cross and a right hook, finally using the momentum from the last punch to launch a quick, snapping round kick with her leading right leg... And as her leg recoiled from the snapping kick, she lowered it back down, this time behind her it's twin, switching her stance... All so so she could follow up with yet another right kick, this time a full power, high roundhouse, as if picturing a foe staggered by her first kick.

WHAP!

WHAP!


Two loud noises echoed through the gym as the both kicks sent the heavy bag reeling, the second one far more so. But Melanie paid it no mind. Having inverted her stance, she restarted the exercise with a left jab, then carried on exactly the same way; cross, hook, round kick, then finally roundhouse with the same leg. She finished this same drill over and over and over, chaining one into the other until her movements seemed like an endless string of melee attacks.

No matter how hard she tried, her movements naturally slowed down a little bit after forty seconds. She was still feeling the burn from her previous workout and it took a great deal of effort to keep her fists sharp and on target. Even with gloves, hell, even with her healing abilities, a sloppily thrown punch could easily lead to injury, and a broken wrist was hardly a painless injury. In that split second between breaking her wrist and healing it, she'd likely be wide open if caught at point blank range by a skilled opponent...

But as the one minute mark finally came, Melanie had earned her rest. She finished the last double kick with as loud a slam as the first set, courtesy of that second wind she got when an exercise came to a close, as sure as the sunrise. She'd been going at the heavy bag nonstop after yet another nonstop round of physical conditioning, but this explosive, all or nothing form of workout naturally came with drawbacks. The tired fighter grabbed her towel, bottle, and leaned against the nearby column, keeping her punching bag in sight so she could hop right back in should someone come close enough to possibly claim it.

"Whew...", she'd sigh as she opened her bottle, only to click her tongue when she hung it over her open mouth. Only a few drops came out, "Forgot to refill it huh...? Oh well..."

With the towel draped around her shoulders, she wiped her face and approached the fountain, drinking a good long chug from it before putting the bottle over the fountain's head and refilling as hard as any fast food restaurant goer. Now she was ready for the next round. Usually she'd wait a whole minute, exactly the same time which she exercised, accounting for the time it took for her sparring partner to do the same drill while she held the focus mitts or kicking shield... But that type of workout meant she was also training her stance when recieving an opponent's attacks, learning how to push against them like a rebounding heavy bag.

Alas, she lacked a sparring partner...

So she had to settle for the next best thing, shorter waiting times between each minute long sets. Thus she approached the heavy bag once more, light on her feet as always. Instead of a simple punching bag, she tried to imagine an actual opponent who would fight back at the first opportunity. She started with a right leg lead this time, and threw a quick right jab. Picturing a counter attack, she ducked down towards the right, bobbing and weaving under the first strike, then towards the left side under a second punch. Keeping up with this weaving motion, she'd unleash her own counter attack: Left body hook, then right body hook, finishing off with left rising uppercut and finally a right straight with all her weight behind it.

As she finished each string in the same stance as she started, Melanie had to skip and switch legs halfway through, and repeating the whole combo starting with a left jab.
