Surf's up [Scoop Hunter | Open]

on Thu Aug 31, 2017 12:05 pm
Yorkshun was hardly known as a popular surfing spot; for that purpose one had plenty of better options to choose from. Yet every now and then, on particularly hot weeks, Yorkshun beach welcomed swells big enough to draw in experienced surfers from all over the city. Many locals, surely, but also plenty of tourists. Now, Mel could hardly call herself a skilled surfer, but she had plenty of experience; she loved spending time at the beach, checking out the beauties and losing track of time with her friends. Surfing was just one among many hobbies she indulged in, though she found standing atop a wave one of the most liberating sensations she ever experienced...

With the sun beaming down overhead and scarcely a cloud in sight, one would naturally expect the beach to be a popular hotspot... In order to get a proper chance to ride a couple of waves, Melanie avoided the more crowded places and instead headed for a less frequented surf shop towards the north side. She had a hunch that would be the best spot, and as she found fifteen or so other surfers nearby - experienced looking ones at that - she knew her hunch had been right.

"Hey there~!", she flashed her best smile to the blonde running the surf shop, nodding towards one of the boards on display, "How much to rent that board for two hours?", and the answer all but made her pout in disappointment before narrowing her eyes and resting her elbows over the counter, "Not even a first timer discount...? That's no good, you really should... Tease your customers a bit more, y'know?"

And after a little flirtatious haggling, she now had a significanly cheaper rental board, and a random guy's phone number...

After handing him his jenny, she walked back out onto the soft sand, now carrying a surfboard under her arm, a good bit taller than herself. She'd barely taken any luggage with her when she left, and that defenitely didn't include her own board. She'd rent them on a day by day basis, just as she was doing now. As she ran a finger under the edges of her bikini top, Mel took a closer look at the surfers. Truly most of them seemed experienced, save for a newly arrived group of ten, clearly beginners to learn from an instructor. Oh well, still more than enough waves to go around... Now, to wait for a good set.

Yorkshun city was a big place, as in a very big place. As such, it had many different attractions for the public, from a market street where the normal people of society could buy whatever it was they needed, to an archery range that Sora had only recently discovered through the help of her new friend Shin, to the beach, where the young girl now found herself. She wasn't hugely dressed for the beach, opting for a black t-shirt and denim shorts, but she had decided not to bother with her shoes since they would only get in the way. It had been a spontaneous decision, and Sora hadn't given herself time to properly think it through. If she had, she might remember that she was lacking in any swim or beach wear, which might've made her go to the market first to get said clothes. But no, that was not the kind of person she was. Act first, consider the issues when the reveal themselves. After all, it was the beach.

As her feet first stepped onto the sandy shore, Sora looked around at the many people gathered today, as well as what they were doing. It seemed like many were just enjoying the sunshine, with a couple of families dotted around in the shallows of the water, enjoying the refreshing ocean. Sora had come to a more secluded area of the beach, so there weren't many people currently gathered, which is how she managed to notice a woman walking towards the ocean, carrying a board that looked taller than she herself was. Surfing was a pastime Sora had never had the chance to experience in her life, having lived nowhere near the ocean and only recently having learned how to swim properly. She may have only been 15, but her life had been rather full so far, and she decided then and there, another spontaneous decision, that she would try to surf. Running to catch the woman, who looked rather friendly and almost like she had an idea of what she was doing, Sora spoke, "Hey miss, where did you get that board? Also how much is it? Also can I get a wet suit or something to try the surfing myself? Also my name is Sora. Also could you teach me how to surf? Pretty pretty pleeeeeeeease?"

Focused on the crashing waves as she was, Melanie completely missed the approaching little redhead until the unknown voice called out to her. She turned around quickly enough and immediately found herself under a heavy barrage of questions, yet her wide eyed surprise vanished quickly enough into an amused, welcoming smile:

"Whoa, slow down sweetie, asking so many questions at once won't make you any cuter...", or so she said, but then she reconsidered quickly enough, throwing the girl a playful wink, "Actually, scratch that, it really does~", she giggled and corrected herself, then rested her hand on Sora's shoulder, "All right, Onee-san will teach you everything from A to Z~! Name's Melanie."

Indeed Sora had guessed correctly, Melanie treated everyone nicely. But this girl, Sora, must be around Amy's age, the only sister who Melanie knows genuinely hated her. Well, she did kinda deserve it, repeatedly hitting on the boy she had a crush on... But hey, if the guy would threw himself at any girl who flirted with him, he was defenitely no good for her sister! So far he'd never failed the Melanie test, but the more she tried, the more Amy hated her, and the more Mel wanted to protect her...

Those thoughts aside, she couldn't help but give off that elder sister vibe when dealing with girls younger than herself, understandably enough, when most of her past revolved around caring for three little sisters, now between 13 and 17 years old. On the other hand, here she was projecting the bottomless affection she felt towards her sisters, on a really cute girl with no blood ties to get in the way... Thoughts of the legal troubles she might get into were enough to make her gulp.

It's fine, all Melanie had to do was control herself...

...Okay, on second thought, she might really be in trouble here...

Fortunately, she lacked the foresight to fret about it, smiling cool and casually as she gladly indulged Sora's request for a surfing lesson, "With waters this warm, you can surf in your Bikini; so first off, you need to rent your board. Unless you feel like carrying yours around wherever you go, rentals are the way to go. And that means getting a good price, which in turn means using your feminine charms~", her smile widened at this last part, and she nodded towards the surf house up ahead, "Come with me."

So she'd approach the surf shop guy, once more leaning slightly over the counter, resting her elbows atop it so her arms pressed her breasts together ever so slightly. As a result, the blond guy had no way of peeling his eyes away from her, long before she flaunted that tried, tested, and thoroughly seductive smile as she gazed into his eyes, "Lovely to see you again~!", that impish greeting caught his attention quickly enough, "You were so helpful I just had to bring a friend to try out surfing. You'll give her a new customer discount too, yeah?", the poor shopkeeper tensed apprehensively at this request...

Yet a soft, charming look of plea was all she needed to seal the deal, "You will, won't you~? This is quickly turning into my favorite surf shop~"

Of course, not for a second did Melanie consider Sora might have stopped by the beach without a bikini to change into... She shared a cumplicit smile with the younger redhead, "Sora, see any board you like? You should look for one around the same size as mine.", naturally, Mel would help out if she picked one too small or too difficult for a beginner. Otherwise, she'd let the girl choose for herself, and pick out a board she felt comfortable grasping.

Melanie, as it appeared the woman's name was, seemed to be talking to Sora as a big sister would talk to a little, but that didn't bother the crimson haired girl, who was just pleased she was talking to someone that wasn't just going to tell her to piss off, as many others no doubt would have, wanting to enjoy the warm beach on their own, or at least with people they knew and not a little girl.

Melanie's next statement, after introducing herself and saying she'd be happy to lend a hand, was an expected, but equally disappointing assumption, as Sora had not thought ahead far enough to bring a bikini, and was stuck in her denim shorts and top. Although, if the weather was indeed warm enough to surf in a bikini, such as the one this woman was wearing, then surely it would be fine for Sora. She'd just have to avoid wiping out while on the board. No pressure there. As for a board however, it seemed that Melanie would take Sora back the way she had come to the rental shop, openly flirting with the man, to the man's obvious discomfort as he gave Sora the 'newcomer discount' that she had received. Being only fifteen years of age, and thus still developing her womanly attributes, Sora had yet to master her charm, or using her looks as a weapon against poor enemies, something that Melanie seemed to be very adept in, as she directed Sora to choose a board that was a similar height to Melanie's own, which meant it would be damn near impossible for the small girl to pick up effectively, but she went with what her 'big sister' suggested and picked out a very pink board, that would make most normal people vomit with its block colours, but Sora instantly loved it, as it was just so pretty, then she decided to use her own infantile cuteness instead of her womanly charms, but not on the shop owner.

"B-but, I don't the money to pay for this, Onee-san. I'm sorry, but could you pay for it for me? I promise I'll pay you back as soon as I get the money."

Sora quickly picked out a shock pink colored board, the type her flashy youngest sister Mia might have chosen... Yet it appeared she didn't have the money for it and promptly asked Melanie to pay for hers with a look of irresistible cuteness. The dark haired girl all but trembled with unyielding desire to hug the living snot out of her, crossing her arms and rubbing both sides of her waist, needing every ounce of willpower in her to hold back against glomping a girl she hardly knew... Of course, she also knew what the redhead was doing - either on purpose or unconsciously - as Melanie herself had done it before her body matured, and even her sisters had tried it on her on more than one occasion. They usually succeeded, but quickly realized how they needn't try too hard to get their big sis to do things for them:

"You know, you're pretty good at this... You must have boys falling head over heels for you already~", Melanie would smile with a smitten blush as she pet the girl's head, her lips widening into a grin quickly enough, "Don't worry about it, that was my plan to begin with."

She always praised them if they did it well enough though... That might be why her dad saw Melanie as a bad influence. And now here she was, with a younger girl she barely knew, unable to resist acting like her sister. Guess old habits really do die hard... With this, she paid the well bargained shopkeeper his jenny and held on to one end of Sora's board, helping the younger girl carry it back onto the beach next to hers. They'd start over the soft, dry sand, where they could set the board down without breaking its fins:

"Now then, let's go over the basics, shall we? Lie face down on your board like this...", the tall girl explained with a soft look on her face, the kind you'd expect from a loving sister turned patient teacher. She'd rest on the board with her legs together, both feet right on the rear tip, giving her a constant awareness of her position, "Once you see a wave, paddle and try to catch it. Once you're on top of it, it's time to pop up..."

With this, Mel exemplified the movement, before moving on to the difficult part: Popping up and actually balancing on top of the board. When she started surfing, wiping out while trying to stand up happened often enough. She rested her hands under her chest, and spoke up once more:

"First, push up with your arms, and arch your back off the board.", Melanie demonstrated, stretching her arms as far as possible, "Two, shift your rear foot next to the other knee.", she's bend the right knee like a chicken wing to give her a proper footing for the final step, "And third, move your lead foot where your hands used to be.", with that last movement, she'd finally stand on the board in a crouched, sideways stance, her arms to the side for balance.

Thinking back to her own experience when she first started, Mel couldn't help but stare off into the ocean before shifting her crimson gaze back to Sora, looking over her position and seeing how long she could hold it. Every now and then she'd push the redhead at the shoulder, gently at first, then a bit harder, but always enough that she could balance her way through as needed:

"It's okay to take your time at first, better to spend one second getting each of the steps right than trying to jump up right away. And when you wipe out, be sure to cover your head.", that's one part Mel didn't feel the need to explain, with surfer and board both being tossed around in a crashing wave, it got pretty easy for the former to hit her head on the latter.

Once she could hold that stance for ten to twenty seconds even with with Melanie's occasional push, then she'd be ready to start shredding waves for real.
